The patented elastomer TX restores the durable water-repellency (DWR) finish to all waterproof, breathable laminates, coatings, and microfibers by attaching a one-molecule-thick hydrophobic polymer to the fabric. A key component in maintaining the functionality of your BigPockets jackets is the DWR (durable water-repellency). The DWR causes water to bead up and roll off the garment instead of being absorbed. This minimizes condensation forming within and maximizes breathability. DWR is not permanent. Dirt; smoke residue from campfires, wood stoves, kerosene or propane heaters; and residues from oil, grease, and detergent can mask the DWR. The result is that rain or snow no longer bead-up, a condition known as “wet out.” Wet out leads to temperature reduction, condensation, increased garment weight, and reduced breathability, all of which will create a sensation that the fabric is no longer waterproof. The wearer will feel damp and clammy.
