Description
Insect Shield® technology converts clothing and gear into long-lasting, effective, and convenient insect protection. The active ingredient in Insect Shield®, permethrin, is so tightly bonded to the fabric fibers that it retains effective repellency through the expected life of the product. The repellency of Insect Shield® apparel is EPA-registered to last through 70 launderings. This is also well beyond the life of most performance fabric commonly used in the technical-apparel industry.
Insect Shield® Repellent Apparel is proven to repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges (no-see-ums). The EPA requires extensive effectiveness testing to prove a product’s ability to repel insects. Many species and varieties of these insects have been tested, including those that can carry dangerous diseases (Lyme, malaria, Dengue fever and Zika virus).
If you are in areas/countries with malaria or with lots of mosquitoes, it is important to also use insect repellent, preferably a long-acting one, on bare skin.
Insect Shield® products are appropriate for use by the entire family with no restrictions for use. Since 1977, Permethrin has had an excellent safety record. It is used in lice shampoos for children, flea dips for dogs, and various other products, some of which are regulated by the FDA.
This apparel can be washed with other clothing in the washing machine. No special detergent is required. Tumble dry medium. To not diminish the effectiveness of insect repellency, do not dry clean, use bleach or fabric softener, and apply stain remover sparingly.
Permethrin treated apparel is recommended by the following agencies:
