Tody Tours specializes in tropical birding tours in the Dominican Republic. Kate Wallace, owner and local guide, was the first bird specialist to lead birding tours based out of Santo Domingo. The Dominican Republic is home to several species of endemic birds found nowhere else in the world. Embajador Hotel
The Occidental Embajador Hotel is a large, top of the line hotel, located in the residential area of the capital, Santo Domingo. This hotel is surrounded by extensive gardens where 250+ parakeets roost every night.
Hostal Nicolas Nader
This hotel is an important example of colonial architecture and Dominican historical heritage. Built in 1502 for the explorer Pedro Alvarado, in 1516 it became a Jesuit convent. In the nineteenth century it was the residence of the poets Salomé Ureña and Pedro henríquez Ureña, as well as of the dictator Ulises Hereux. This building was renovated in 1983, becoming an exclusive ten-room hotel with a pleasant environment. It is located in the colonial zone of Santo Domingo.
Casa Bonita
Casa Bonita, a lovely small countryside hotel on a little hill above a beach with a small pool and good food. 30 minutes from the international airport and convenient to Sierra Bahoruco National Park where one can find 26 of the 27 endemic birds. They will pick you up from anywhere on the island and also can arrange for 4X4 rental vehicles.
