Barren Grounds Bird Observatory
Situated in the Barren Grounds Nature Reserve, a 2,000 hectare plateau on the Illawarra escarpment, which is a little closer to Sydney than Canberra. Barren Grounds is home to many threatened species, including the Eastern Bristlebird, Ground Parrot, Giant Burrowing Frog and Long-nosed Potoroo. The Reserve contains 181 species of birds, 500 plant species, 32 species of reptiles and amphibians and 34 native and 6 introduced mammal species. There are many walks of different lengths and difficulty. All of the walks pass through such a variety of habitats there is always something interesting to see. Limited research-type lodging may be available for longer stays.

Echuca District Outings
The Echuca Branch of the Bird Observers Club of Australia lists its field trips and at the end of their site have a list of good birding spots.
Sydney Field Trips
The Cumberland Bird Observers' Club conducts at least 40 birdwatching trips every year all over the greater Sydney region.
